Scribes and Pharisees

"...The gang leader tells his followers that the robberies and looting going on in their neighborhood is due to a rival gang.  He then gives directions for where to find their stolen goods."

"And sure enough, when the Red Gang raids the Blue Gang's house, they discover the stolen merchandise taken from the community."

"But what the Red Gang doesn't know is that the Red Gang Leader is working in collusion with the government.  Just like the Blue Gang Leader, he is a government informant."

"While the Red Gang was at the other place retrieving their property, the Red Gang Leader and the government enforcers kidnap their families and sell them into slavery.  The Red Gang Leader maims and kills them with poison, sends their children into warzones, turns them out through sex trafficking, and harvests their organs for profit."

Producer (interrupts): "Yeah, I can see where this is going.  The Red Gang takes out their vengeance on their leader and his government enforcers.  Sorry, but we already have enough revenge-based movies in the cue."

Writer: "No, that's not it at all.  The Red Gang members actually give their full support to their Red Gang Leader."

Producer (suddenly interested):  "Tell me more."

Writer: "It's a story of mass cognitive dissonance where everything wrong with their charismatic leader is swept under the rug as he gets them to take out their frustrations on the Blue Gang."

Producer: "After all, the Blue Gang members are thieves that robbed them."

Writer:  "Exactly!"

Producer:  "I like it.  I assume that the Red Gang will eventually figure out that their leader is in on the con.  Then it becomes a revenge movie at the end."

Writer:  "I'm not sure about the ending.  We'll have to wait and see."
