Howling at the Moon

We dwell inside our torture chamber
The prison of our minds
Not enough drugs to make us forget
What we have left behind

We gave up peace and tranquility
For snake-oil salesmen and tools
Where traitors are called heroes
For breaking all the rules

We could have lived in harmony
In kindness and in truth
But we’ve chosen the Destroyer
Now the chickens come to roost.

Hard enough to fight the external world
Always trying to pull us in
But what chance have we when “kill or be killed”
Is what we’re living in?

Perhaps we should ask our victims
Refugees around the globe
Wondering how to feed their children
As they reach the end of the road

“So let it be written
So let it be done”
The multitude will share their fate
Before the setting sun

We play for you these plaintive lines
For the next stage is coming soon
Too bad you failed to listen
And left us howling at the moon

For those out in the distance
I can hear your lonesome cries
May you find peace and forgiveness
Before they run out of lies
